What's the formula to calculate the average?

The formula to calculate the average is,

Average = \frac{\text{Sum of all Values}}{\text{Total number of values}}

An example would be, if you have the numbers 3, 5, and 7 then

Average = \frac{3+5+7}{3}

=\frac{15}{3}

= 5

Let's learn by another example with the numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, 10

We add up all the numbers: 2+4+6+8+10 = 30

We then divide the sum by the total number of values, in this case, we have 5: \frac{30}{5}

The average comes out to be 6

Average is the useful way to summarize and understand a set of data, when multiple numbers are involved. It gives us the single value that represents the center tendency of the set.
