How is your grade calculated?

Your grades are calculated using a method called Weighted Average. Not all your grade points carry the same importance, and that is where the concept of weightage comes into play. This grade calculator is a tool that will help you calculate your grades based on weighted averages.

You can add your Assignment or Courses and their weight and get your grade results. To calculate your GPA use our GPA Calculator.

How can you calculate your grades?

We will be using Weighted average to calculate your grades for individual subjects as well as total subjects.

For individual subjects consider each value as your assignment or coursework value and weight.

The general formula to calculate the Weighted average is:

\overline{x} = \frac{\sum{(x_i \times w_i)}}{\sum{w_i}} = \frac{x_1w_1 + x_2w_2 + ... + x_nw_n}{w_1 + w_2 + ... + w_n}

Where,

  • x_i represents each individual value.
  • w_i represents the corresponding weight for each value.
  • The numerator is the sum of each value multiplied by its weight.
  • The denominator is the sum of all the weights.

Example:

Let us assume your mark in your Math course is based on your assignment, attendance, and exam marks.

There are a total of 2 assignments, each having 20% weightage. Attendance has a 10% weightage, and your exam marks have a 50% weightage.

Your marks in the assignments are 60 and 70, and your attendance marks are 60. Your exam marks are 80.

Weighted Average would be:

\overline{x} = \frac{(60 \times 20) + (70 \times 20) + (60 \times 10) + (80 \times 50)}{20 + 20 + 10 + 50}

\overline{x} = \frac{1200 + 1400 + 600 + 4000}{100}

\overline{x} = \frac{7200}{100}

\overline{x} = 72

Your total marks for this grade is 72.
